The Mabommay is a dance of exhilaration of the Akan people of Ghana. This original composition commissioned by the National Cello Institute makes use of simple rhythms within each part, that mesh to produce lively polyrhythms, reminiscent of the music of Ghana. Part 8 is very simple, utilizing only pizzicato and tapping on the cello, while the upper parts delve into easy thumb position. This piece has received wide acclaim from performers and audiences alike.
