Winter Suzuki
Cello Workshop
February 24, 2024
Pasadena, California, USA
Taking place on a single day, the Winter Workshop is an intensive cello refresher and community learning experience, providing students 3 to 4 hours of classes during the day, culminating in an afternoon performance with the cello orchestra. Enrollment is generally around 50-60 students, with divisions into classes based on Suzuki book level. Several of our illustrious cello faculty make the trek to California to share their knowledge with us while we have an all-day cello extravaganza!
National Cello Institute
June 23-29, 2024
Claremont, California, USA
Summer of 2024 will mark the 49th National Cello Institute! Over the years, this has proven to be a truly unique experience for cello students of all ages and levels. Because enrollment at the NCI is almost exclusively cello students, we have the unique situation of having the most comprehensive program at the same time as having one of the smallest overall enrollments of any institute in the country.
Over 150 cello students regularly attend the NCI, and generally range in age from 5 to 18 and in level from French Folk Song to the major solo repertoire, and we also usually have a class of enthusiastic adult students. This means that no matter what your age or level is, there are going to be classes at the NCI that will suit you perfectly.
Plan to attend the National Cello Institute this year. It will be an experience you will enjoy and remember forever!
Mission Statement
National Cello Institute
Peter Kibbe, Managing Director
The mission of the National Cello Institute is to inspire and promote excellence in cellists of all ages. Our annual programs include the National Cello Institute for a week during the summer, and the Winter Suzuki Cello Workshop for one Saturday in February, and both prioritize a strong foundation in cello technique, ensemble playing, and active listening.
Our mission is to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive environment that embraces the community support aspects of the Suzuki philosophy, emphasizing fundamental techniques, ensemble playing, and active listening while engaging with musical material, instruction, mentorship, and live performance. As an institute that values community and connection, we bring together a diverse group of cellists, encouraging mutual support and collective learning. Our vision extends beyond mere instruction, and through a variety of classes and optional sessions tailored to individual needs, we aim to instill a core appreciation for music and the cello, nurturing a lifelong passion for this extraordinary instrument.
At the heart of our vision is the belief that every cellist, regardless of age or skill level, can thrive and flourish in a supportive community that embodies the Suzuki philosophy. We strive to create an enriching experience that not only refines musical skills but also instills lifelong values of discipline, perseverance, and joy in the journey of learning. For nearly half a century, our programs have not only produced professional cellists but have also inspired lifelong musicians, contributing to a rich roster of alumni encompassing countless cellists over the last 48 years.
The National Cello Institute stands as a beacon of excellence in cello education, ensuring that each participant leaves with cherished memories and enriched musical skills, ready to contribute to the world of music.
